UFC Fight Night 32 Main Card Recap: ‘Mutante’ Settles The Score With Daniel Sarafian
Cezar Ferreira v Daniel Sarafian
The long awaited bout between TUF Brazil finalists Daniel Sarafian and Cezar Ferreira fought in the co-main event. Sarafian chased down Ferreira to start and tied him up against the cage. Sarafian controlled Ferreira against the cage for half the round until Mario Yamasaki separates the two. On the restart Sarafian tags Ferriera with a nice right hand that looks to have hurt ‘Munante’. Sarafian comes out throwing some hard kicks in the second and Ferreira takes the fight down to the mat. When the two get back to their feet Sarafian lands some nice punches which look like they hurt Ferreira again. The Brazilians both came out throwing and landing hard shots in the third round which Sarafian looked to be getting the better of. Ferreira landed another nice takedown and worked some ground and pound on Sarafian. The fight got stood up due to inactivity and Ferrerira took the fight right back down again. Ferrieira worked and took Sarafians back at the end of the fight, finishing the round with a rear naked choke attempt. Close fight but Ferreira has done just enough.
Rafael Feijao v Igor Pokrajac
Former Strikeforce light-heavyweight champion Rafael Feijao was looking for his first win against the Croatian Igor Pokrajac. Pokrajac came out swinging to start and landed some hard punches against Feijao. The Brazilian returned with some hard punches of his own and Pokrajac ties his opponent up against the cage. Feijao works to get the thai clinch and lands some punishing knees to the head and body of Pokrajac. A few more right hands and Pokrajac is down, a few follow up strikes, and like Paulo Thiago is tapping out before the ref steps in. Vicious finish by the Brazilian.
Brandon Thatch v Paulo Thiago
The second welterweight fight on the main card was between sluggers Brandon Thatch and Paulo Thiago. Thatch came out very aggressive to start landing some hard kicks and punches to the Brazilian. Thiago landed a nice right hand of his own and then scored a nice takedown. Thatch worked to get back up and punished Thiago on the feet when he got there, landing more punishing kicks and a huge knee to the chest which dropped Thiago. Thatch follows up with punches and Thiago is tapping out before the ref steps in. Devastating finish by Thatch.
Ryan Laflare v Santiago Ponzinibbio
Both men were moving around and throwing a lot of feints to start. Laflare took the fight to the ground and immediately worked his way to mount. He controled Ponzinibbio on top for the majority of the round then threatened his opponent with a nice armbar attempt. The welterweights came out looking to strike early in the second. Laflare was landing some nice kicks on his opponent. The fight was briefly took to the ground by Laflare but Ponzinibbio got back up and looked to trade. Laflare showed some crisp boxing, landing punches and slipping away from any counters. Ponzinibbio landed some nice punches late in the round but Laflare took the fight down to get out of any danger. Ponzinibbio looked tired coming out in the third. Laflare again landed some nice kicks. A nice slam by Laflare and he briefly took Ponzinibbio down again. Laflare dropped his opponent with a right high kick similar to Jermey Stevens’ in the previous fight. Ponzinibbio managed to get up but looked hurt. A nice right hand and Ponzinbbio dropped Laflare. Ponzinibbio looked to finish but Laflare pulls of a slick sweep from the bottom. Great fight.
Jeremy Stevens v Rony Jason
Featherweights, Jeremey Stevens and Rony Jason kicked off the main card. The fight started slow, but Stevens was pressing the action in the cage. Both men look to trade punches but nothing connects. Stevens continues to stalk Jason and lands a perfectly timed right high kick. Jason is down and he’s out. A few follow up punches to Jason and the ref pulls Stevens off. Great finish by ‘Little Eden’.
