UFC 156: Jose Aldo vs. Frankie Edgar Extended Preview (Video)

After a great night of fights at UFC on FOX 6, Ultimate Fighting Championship will return with the super stacked UFC 156 fight card at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The event is headlined by the long-awaited superfight between Jose Aldo and Frankie “The Answer” Edgar. The pair will go toe-to-toe for the UFC Featherweight title, with Edgar finally making his debut at what seems as his natural weight class. As for Aldo, the Brazilian KO artist will be looking to defend his title for the fourth consecutive time, and sixth overall (including WEC bouts).

Also on the card, Alistair Overeem makes his return against no other than Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva. The winner of this fight could be the next in line for Cain Velasquez‘s UFC Heavyweight title. UFC 156 also includes the Light Heavyweight encounter between Rashad Evans and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, while Jon Fitch vs. Demian Maia, and Joseph Benavidez vs. Ian McCall complete the main card.

Don’t forget to submit your picks for UFC 156. The winner will get an awesome prize from our friends at Vehement MMA – 2 t-shirts, and a pair of boxing gloves. All 100% organic!

As much as I'm looking forward to seeing the top of the card, I can't wait to see Overeem back in The Octagon and Fitch / Maia should be a great fight. It's a huge fight for both, with significant ramifications in the division. The winner really climbs into the mix and the loser gets knocked down a stacked division ladder. Can't wait.

Picking Edgar, Overeem and Maia (as much as I love Fitch).

This has all the potential of being one of the best cards of the year.

Is it just me or Overeem has lost a lot of muscle I saw that video with the alligator and the model and honestly he looks a lot smaller, if that's the case I think Bigfoot might shock the world. Aldo is going to destroy Edgar and I actually think it will be on Edgar best interest to get KO early in the fight or he is in for long, painfull, face arranging night.

If he's smaller it makes sense. He's off the steroids. 8)) I still dont think Bigfoot is a challenge for any of the top 5

I really think he looks smaller, we will find out friday I guess, if he weights less than 245 definitely he is going to have problems dealing with the size and strength of Silva, I think he is an elite striker but his Takedown defense might be affected by his size. I am a fan of Overeem but if he has lost part of his strength his whole game will suffer

We are all so lucky MMA has progressed to this point. Edgar – Aldo is going to be a proper test for both these fighters. Aldo has never faced someone as good as Edgar, but equally Edgar hasn't faced someone as fast and accurate as Aldo. Gotta go with Edgar, he has been counted out so many times and still doesn't get the respect he deserves. He has to be careful in the early rounds though as Aldo can be very explosive and has great finishing instinct. If he avoids that though I think Edgar will finish Aldo in the later rounds, if not a unanimous decision.

Fitch Maia is another sick fight. Maia looks great at WW and has improved his stand up somewhat. Another fight that is very tough to call but Fitch looked very hungry last time out and i think he is super stoked to get back into title contention so I think he may take this. It may not be everyone's cup of tea as both are brilliant grapplers and some may not appreciate the way this fight could go if it goes to clinch and ground a lot, but for the connoisseur it is a great fight.

Evans Nog is an easy win for Evans IMO so long as he avoids making a mistake on the ground.

Overeem has a big ? to answer now he's off the juice. If he isn't adversly affected too much he should take it easy also.

Even the prelims are stacked. Brilliant start to 2013. get the beers in for Saurday night!!!!!

This Card is so cool! It Will be nice to see how Aldo looks agaisnst Frankie comparing to previoues Edgars opponents. This can show if Aldo can move up to 155 lb class

Feel very sorry for Bigfoot Silva. Don't think he will stand against top UFC heavyweights
