UFC 181 Adds Travis Browne vs Brendan Schaub

UFC 181 adds Travis Browne vs Brendan Schaub

Heavyweight’s Travis Browne and Brendan Schaub will look to pick up their first win inside the Octagon this year against one-another as they have been booked to tangle at UFC 181.

The news was shared on the UFC twitter account today:

Featuring a pair of world title fights, UFC 181 takes place on December 6 and will go down in the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The main event is set to feature a monumental match in the middleweight division as “The Phenom” Vitor Belfort challenges the “All-American” Chris Weidman for his UFC title.

The co-main event of UFC 181 also features a historic bout as UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis takes on former Strikeforce champion Gilbert Melendez. The bout will also serve as the finale to The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 20 where Pettis and Melendez competed against each other as coaches. The event’s main card will be available to watch on pay-per-view following the preliminary match-ups which can be seen on Fox Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

The bout is a must-win for both men if they want to work their way back towards a UFC title shot following disappointing setbacks earlier in the year.

“Hapa” will make his return to the cage hoping to erase the memory of his loss to Fabricio Werdum in a title-eliminator earlier this year at UFC on Fox 11. The 32-year old was a favorite heading into the bout with the Brazilian and considered to be the better striker. But, he wound up getting dominated by Werdum on the feet and going on to lose a unanimous decision.

Prior to his loss to Werdum, Browne was on a three-fight winning streak which saw him earn three “Knockout of the Night” awards for his stoppages over Josh Barnett, Alistair Overeem and Gabriel Gonzaga. Overall, the Hawaiian is 7-2-1 in the UFC.

TUF 10 finalist Schaub also returns to the Octagon desperate for a win following his narrow split-decision loss to former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski in June at UFC 174. The loss to Arlovski snapped a two-fight winning skid for “The Hybrid” after beating Matt Mitrione and Lavar Johnson.
