Tito Ortiz: Forrest Griffin fought pitter patter, I was trying to kill him

Tito Ortiz voiced his opinions post-fight at UFC 148 in what would be his final fight pres conference. He had several good quotes concerning his career ending bout with Forrest Griffin, a fight that he lost by unanimous decision. Ortiz was not surprisingly upset with the outcome, thinking that he did more damage and was looking to finish the fight, but still gave respect to Griffin. Ortiz has always been an outspoken member of the MMA community, and went out fighting hard with his head held high. About his last fight, Ortiz spoke the following, courtesy of UFC.com:

“I thought I won. I thought the fight was over. Forrest thought the fight was over. The fans thought the fight was over. Just the judge didn’t see it that way.”

Ortiz, along with many others, believed he did enough to come out victorious in Las Vegas. While Griffin did land a higher number of significant strikes, Ortiz appeared to do more damage and come closer to finishing the bout. He continued on:

“I fought with my heart. I fought with my soul. I fought the way I wanted to fight. I gave everything out there. After the fight was over I had nothing left. I have no regrets. Forrest fought a good fight – pitter-patter; I was trying to kill him. I have no regrets, and I’m thankful for everything the UFC has done for me.”

Ortiz left all he had in the cage tonight at UFC 148. While he will go into the sunset with a controversial loss, his career will still be looked upon as that of a legend. He truly did always put everything he had into each bout, and win or lose, he gave his all. Tito Ortiz, love him or hate him, was a great pioneer for the UFC and will go down in history as such. Controversy or not, the UFC Hall of Fame’s newest member left his mark on the sport of MMA.
