Three Bouts You Don’t Want To Miss At UFC Fight Night 47

UFC Fight Night 47 goes down tonight (Saturday, August 16, 2014) from the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, Maine, after a few weeks without a UFC event. There are a number of entertaining scraps waiting to quench our collective thirst, and the card looks pretty solid overall, at least on paper.

So, which fights should you look out for?

Shawn Jordan vs Jack May

Two heavyweight knockout artists with their backs against the walls in this one, and that is a recipe for a slugfest. Jordan has suffered two KO losses on the trot to Gabriel Gonzaga and Matt Mitrione, ending his own two knockout streak over Pat Barry and Mike Russow. ‘The Outlaw” suffered the first loss of his career in his promotiona debut, getting squashed by Derrick Lewis in the first round, this past April.

Expect bombs galore as May looks to bounce back from his first ever loss, and “The Savage” hopes to regain his form after a couple of starchings. \my prediction is a very short bout, as Jordan unleashes a furious flurry of punches against the cage, and sends “The Outlaw” packing in round one.

Gray Maynard vs Ross Pearson

Here we have a rather interesting lightweight affair, between a wrestler with striking, and a boxer with good TDD. ‘The Real Deal’ may have been robbed last time out against Diego Sanchez, but his performance showed us he is maturing rapidly. ”The Bully’ has not experienced great form as of late, remaining inactive since knockout losses to TJ Grant and Nate Diaz in 2013.

With Gray Maynard’s chin in question, there is the chance that he will try to wrestle Pearson for the three rounds. That being said, something tells me that ‘The Bully’ will try and prove a point, I predict this may be a foolhardy approach; Pearson by TKO in round two

Tom Watson vs Sam Alvey

British middleweight Tom Watson returns to action against Team Quest’s Sam Alvey on the prelims section of the card this evening, and this one has all the makings for FOTN. “Kong”, now training out of Jackson’s MMA, may be riding a two-fight skid, but he has a gritty and exciting style. “Smilin” is very experienced at 23-5, and will be looking to impress in his UFC debut.

It may be last chance saloon for the British standout, but a repeat of his FOTN & KOTN win over Stanislav Nedkov in 2013 would certainly boost his stock instantly. Interesting factoid of the day is that Alvey has a no-contest due to rainfall on his record. All considered, I figure this will be a hard-fought split decision win for Watson.
