Quote: Frankie Edgar Outstruck Jose Aldo For Three Rounds

UFC featherweight contender Frankie Edgar further cemented his position in the rankings this past Saturday (Nov. 22nd, 2014) with a stunning win against Cub Swanson. The streaking Swanson was stopped in his tracks by possibly the best version we’ve ever seen of Edgar. Looking forward, the talk of Edgar vs Jose Aldo 2 is filling the air.

“The Answer” has said he believes he should be next, and his coach is confident that he’ll bring home the belt in a rematch with “Scarface”. Check out what Mark Henry said to MMAJunkie.com:

“We do really well with rematches, and Frankie’s danced with him once, I’ve got so much confidence that it would be a totally different story the second Aldo fight, including, too, that nobody talks about it really – Frankie is the only one to outstrike Aldo (in the) third, fourth and fifth round. He outstruck him, bottom line.”

The first fight went down at UFC 156, where the champion retained his belt with a five-round unanimous decision. It was Edgar’s featherweight debut, and it came at a time when the rest of the division was still battling it out to get in line. Oddly enough, “The Answer” beating Swanson at UFC Fight Night 57 has once again thrown a spanner in the works, and left only Edgar and Conor McGregor as potential contenders for the moment.

Grappling coach Ricardo ALmeida also chimed in about the first fight with the featherweight champ:

“I think that if we strictly go by the first fight between Frankie and Aldo, Frankie outstruck him three out of five rounds, and there was quite a few fighters that actually think Frankie won,” said Almeida. “There’s quite a few MMA analysts, knowledgeable people in the industry that thought when the (decision) was announced that Frankie was going to walk out the new featherweight champion. Of course, I’m biased from being in Frankie’s camp, but if we go by what happened, I think Frankie is deserving.”

“When you have a fighter like McGregor with that much hype, it tends to allow the fighter to jump the line, but if you go by results alone and what Frankie has accomplished in the past, Frankie’s last fight with Aldo, without a doubt, I think he’s more qualified to be fighting for the world title than pretty much anyone else.”

With Chad Mendes and Ricardo Lamas both having losses this year to Aldo, and Dennis Bermudez/Cub Swanson now coming off of losses, would it be crazy to book in a rematch between Frankie Edgar and Jose Aldo now? Just for the record, compustrike reveals that Edgar indeed edged Aldo in the stand up in rounds three and four, but fell shy in the final round.
