Anderson Silva vs Nick Diaz at UFC 183 won’t make it past round one, according to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira…

The long-awaited return of former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva has got the world talking. Not only does UFC 183 mark the comeback of the promotion’s most dominant champion, it plays host to the formerly absent Nick Diaz as his main event opponent. The Stockton bad boy has been absent for about 18 months now, and it will be nearly two years when he finally steps back in to the cage in Januray 2015.

“”The Spider” has been sidelined ever since his second fight with Chris Weidman, after suffering a horrific broken leg at UFC 168, in December 2013. Diaz’s inactivity has been due to what he described as poor working conditions and pay issues. The fight against the former champion Silva seems to have done the trick, coaxing him out of his impromptu retirement albeit for a very hard fight.

Silva’s long time team mate and friend Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira spoke to Esportes, translated by Bloody Elbow, to give his prediction for the UFC 183 main event:

“Anderson is finishing his healing process. He already started his camp and will be ready on January. Diaz is a good fighter, he once was world champion at Strikeforce and a top contender in his division. Nick is ready for a five round fight and Anderson has to knock him out. Anderson will do it, I’m sure.”

It would appear that Anderson Silva vs Nick Diaz is being viewed as a bit of a squash match, and not only by “Big Nog”””. The general consensus seems to be that Diaz is in for a hard night at UFC 183, and the 209 legend himself says he isn’t looking forward to it. So is this really as one-sided as most people think right now?

What we know is that Nick Diaz will be in great shape; the triathlon runner is always trim and ready to go, but he is also making a step up in weight. Not only that, he is facing one of the greatest counter strikers in combat sports. It would appear, on paper at least, that “The Spider” has the physical attributes and style to give the former Strikeforce champion a very hard time.

So what’s your prediction for Anderson Silva vs Nick Diaz at UFC 183?
