Poll: Who Will Win UFC Fight Night 63’s Main Bouts?

UFC Fight Night 63

With several blockbuster UFC pay-per-view (PPV) events scheduled for the coming months, this Saturday’s (April 4, 2015) UFC Fight Night 63 from the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Virginia, is sort of flying under the radar.

It may have a strange start time of 11 a.m. ET, but that doesn’t mean it has any less potential to be a solid and action-packed card. At the forefront of that possibility sits the main event between top featherweight contenders Chad Mendes and Ricardo Lamas and the lightweight co-main event between Jorge Masvidal and Al Iaquinta.

The winner of the feature bout will have prime bargaining position in what may be the hottest division in all of mixed martial arts (MMA). But that doesn’t mean they’ll be guaranteed a title shot with a win, as both Mendes and Lamas suffered their most recent defeat to dominant divisional champion Jose Aldo.

Despite their bitter disdain for current title challenger Conor “Notorious” McGregor, both fighters may in reality want the brash Irishman to defeat Aldo in the main event of UFC 189, because that could provide them with a much easier road back to their desired shot at gold.

In the co-headliner, Long Islander Iaquinta will look to continue the hot streak he’s built by knocking off veterans Joe Lauzon, Ross Pearson, and Rodrigo Damm with consecutive TKOs since last September’s UFC Fight Night 50. The sneaky good Masvidal may be his toughest test in the Octagon, however.

“Gamebred” has won five out of his six UFC bouts, and although he hasn’t made much noise due to all but one of them coming by unanimous decision, he’s a technically sound, stifling fighter that could definitely neutralize “Raging’s” brutal knockout power.

With both competitors possessing an impressive six wins in their last seven respective bouts, the winner will most likely move on to a top-ranked challenge in the stacked and dangerous lightweight division.

All of that means much is on the line this Saturday afternoon; who are your picks to emerge victorious in the main and co-main events in Virginia?
