Muhammed Lawal Is Ready To Bounce Back And Get Another Title Shot
Muhammed ‘King Mo’ Lawal lost his second for his current promotion at Bellator 106, to the same fighter as the first time; Emmanuel Newton. The two first met at Bellator 90 where Newton shocked King Mo with a stunning back fist knockout, Mo was able to bounce back with knockouts over Jacob Noe and Seth Petruzelli and was looking to avenge his embarrassing loss at 106.
Things didn’t pan out too well for KM, who lost a unanimous decision at Saturday’s event and is in a no man’s land position; Torn between making K to lose a five round fight in Bellator, his TNA career (which likely pays more) and not having a sniff of a chance at getting a title shot in the near future. Then again, this is Bellator we are talking about.
Mo was open minded in the post fight presser, stating tha a title shot is the only thing that matters for him:
“I want to shout out to Emanuel Newton for a good victory. Personally, I feel like I won rounds 1, 4, and 5. But the judges saw it a different way. It is what it is. I’m just gonna bounce back in the tournament and get my title shot again. Things happen and all I can do is move forward and get my shot back.”
Mo is a very talented fighter, when he shows up. The KM that showed up against Newton at Bellator 106 was simply not good enough. He never got any drive in the takedowns, which was surprising given his wrestling base.
On the feet, Mo was too slow and couldn’t keep his foe in the right range to connect hard, or often. The fight was a clear and decisive win for Newton, who was labelled as a fluke winner after his spectacular first win against Lawal. The second win will certainly dispel any doubt of Newton’s ability, but with the tourney style that BFC uses, it’s only a matter of time before we see Newton vs. Lawal III.
