Mark Munoz potentially out for a year with foot injury

UFC Middleweight Mark Munoz debuted some disappointing news today as he revealed he may be out for up to an entire calendar year. Injuring his foot significantly in training for his loss to Chris Weidman in July, Munoz is unsure if his foot was broken, and how badly. Munoz commented on his injury today via FightHubTV.com:

“I hurt my foot training for the Weidman fight; I was training with Jason (Miller) inside the cage and my foot got caught. I am not sure if it is broken. I will be getting an official MRI tomorrow and I will know. I just hope they do not have to break it in order for it to heal properly as it has somewhat started to heal.”

While Munoz awaits the results of the MRI from his doctor, the news still comes as a harrowing blow for a man who has faced some definite roadblocks this year. He had to pull out of his fight with Chael Sonnen earlier this year when he was faced with elbow surgery. That injury still has not healed according to Munoz, who felt the effects in the Weidman fight:

“When he (Weidman) was on top of me trying to get the guillotine I could feel that I did not have full motion in my elbow.”

Munoz also had to drop over 30 lbs. to get into shape for that fight, which ended in a devastating loss. He was also infected with Staph in training, adding to the list of his ailments in 2012. Now he must take up to a year off in a division that is clamoring with fighters looking for a title shot. Will Mark Munoz ever rise back up to contention in the increasingly tough Middleweight division?
