Mark Hunt: I’m Ready To Get That Number One Spot

Mark Hunt is well aware of the opportunity in front of him at UFC 180, and plans to take full advantage of it…

UFC heavyweight Mark Hunt has proved to be one of the most inspirational stories in modern MMA; after entering the promotion with a loss to Sean McCorkle back in 2010, few (including Dana White) thought that “The Super Samoan” would make much good of his time in the UFC. How wrong they were proven to be.

Hunt went on to win four straight fights, including highlight reel knockouts over Chri Tuchscherer, Cheick Kongo and Stefan Struve. His fansbase swelled, and he was soon paired with former heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos. Although he lost that night at UFC 160, “The Super Samoan” had embedded himself as a legitimate heavyweight in the UFC. One FOTN performance against Bigfoot Silva, and a KO win over Roy Nelson in Japan, and Hunt finds himself in title contention.

After UFC heavuweight champion Cain Velasquez was scratched due to injury, Mark Hunt got the call for an interim title bout against Fabricio Werdum, and says he plans on making himself the number one heavyweight at UFC 180:

“It’s my dream to be the champion, I want to be in the number one spot. He’ll want to go on the ground, he’ll eventually realise he can’t stand and bang with me like the rest of them do. Thanks for the support, it’s now time to go to war and get that number one spot.”
