Jay Hieron returns to the UFC, will face Jake Ellenberger at UFC 151

According to MMAJunkie.com, MMA veteran Jay Hieron will make his long-awaited return to the Octagon on September 1st.

Jay Hieron will replace the injured Josh Koscheck, facing Jake Ellenberger on the main card of UFC 151: Jones vs. Henderson in Las Vegas, Nevada. Thirty-six year old New Yorker is currently 23-5 in his Mixed Martial Arts career, with victories in Bellator, Strikeforce, and Affliction. Hieron has six KO/TKO and seven submission victories on his record, promising an exciting bout with Jake Ellenberger.

In his 4 appearances for Bellator, Hieron won the Season 4 Welterweight tournament, defeating Anthony Lapsley, Brent Weedman, and Rick Hawn. “The Thoroughbred” as unable to counter Ben Askren‘s wrestling at Bellator 56, losing 47-48, 48-47, 48-47 on judges’ scorecards. The “L” snapped Hieron’s 10-fight win streak.

UFC 151 will present a stacked line-up, co-headlined by the Featherweight encounter between Dennis Siver and Eddie Yagon. Hieron vs. Ellenberger is expected to fit in one of the top positions on the main card.

    and Ryo Chonan beat Anderson Silva, think it’ll happen again? Jay Hieron has the better chance to repeat his victory but I don’t think he will, unless Jakes chin maybe lacks and it’s just been exposed, Heiron has some pretty fast accurate hands. should be entertaining either way

    I cant be the only one who thinks of Jay Heiron as one of the most under rated fighters in the WW divison

    I like Hieron and he’s a tough guy, but I don’t see him being able to stop Ellenberger’s takedowns. If it stayed standing, Hieron may have a punchers chance because he does have some good hands, but he also could likely get KO’d by Jake’s power. Entertaining if Jake keeps it on the feet, a potential snoozefest if he takes him down and grinds out a decision.

    Sucks for Jake even if he wins doesn’t put him any closer to getting a title shot and if he loses hes got a bigger him to climb.
