Hector Lombard Talks Unfair Punishment For Stupidity
Former Bellator middleweight champion and UFC welterweight Hector Lombard got his name added to the ‘Hall Of Shame’ recently, adding to a growing list of fighters failing drug tests in 2015. “Showeather” beat Josh Burkman by unanimous decision at UFC 182, only to fail his post-fight drug test for designer drug desoxymethyltestosterone (DMT).
Subsequently barred by the NSAC (Nevada State Athletic Commission) for 12 months, Lombard also got pulled from his scheduled bout against Rory MacDonald at UFC 186. Bad times indeed for the former king of the Bellator middleweights, and he spoke openly about his version of the story with The MMA Hour today:
“I’m very disappointed in my stupidity, It was one of those things that was meant to happen. I never expected that a pill would have such a strong — I thought when you kind of get caught is when you’re injecting yourself with something or whatever. But she was like, this pill, you can take it over the counter and stuff like that. But obviously that was wrong.”
“If I would’ve felt good, I wouldn’t have been experimenting with something new or experimenting with things that I don’t take. In the back of my mind, it was like, ‘I need to get better, I need to get better,'”
Desoxymethyltestosterone (DMT), not to be confused with spirit drug Dimethyltryptamine that makes you see a lizard god, was marketed from the jump as an anabolic steroid for bodybuilders and athletes. A quick search on google for Hector Lombard may have saved him a lot of grief. He continued:
“Of course it was unfair,” Lombard said of the NAC’s punishment. “Have they done it before? No. (They) made an example out of me. I mean, come on. But what can I do. It’s always that way. When the time comes for Hector, it’s always that way, looking to set an example.
“I do believe that if it would’ve been somebody else, it would be different,” Lombard added. “But obviously it’s me. It’s good that it happened, though. It’s good to see, when you’re on the bottom, who are the ones who are going to kick you.”
“”””Lightning” got popped at a time when fans were growing accustomed to the biggest names in the sport being exposed; Wanderlei Silva, Jon Jones & Anderson Silva to name a few, all legends in the sport troubled by drug tests in recent times. Is the negative attention garnered by Lombard’s failed drug screen unfair?
“I have to win convincingly, a fight, to get the fight. I fought Jake Shields and there was a [judge] who gave a round to Jake Shields, when I’m like, for real? So you know, you see what happened with Tim Boetsch. It’s always been like that … but I’m used to it. I swear, it’s not my fault that I look this way. There’s a lot of people, and I’m not going to mention names, but they look like they’re fat and they’re using [PEDs] for their career. But because of the way I look, obviously there’s going to a lot of criticism.”
Either way, “Showeather” got popped, and the NSAC didn’t care for his story about an over-the-counter flu pill that was crammed with roids. He’ll be able to compete in January of 2016, do you think Hector Lombard has what it takes to come back at nearly 38 years old?
