Dominick Cruz: My Coach Offers Bonuses To Knock Me Out

Fancy making yourself 200 bucks? Easy……

Former UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz is once again sidelined during his best fighting years, but it hasn’t stopped him getting better before. After sitting nearly three years and vacating the belt he crossed over from the WEC (World Extreme Cagefighting) “The Dominator” looked better than ever against Takeya Mizugaki at UFC 178.

The brutal first round finish for Cruz looked like the start of a fairy tale comeback, as he was quickly granted a shot at the new champion TJ Dillashaw. The injury bug struck once again, and the frustrated ex-champ was once again on the DL. All things considered, you could argue that “The Dominator” could be even better when he hopefully returns this year, and it’s no wonder given what he told Chael Sonnen‘s ‘You’re Welcome’ podcast:

“I’ve had such a tough road that nobody really knows about me, when I was fighting these guys nobody really knew how tough they were. When I finally got there I had to fight Joseph Benavidez, I had to beat Brian Bowles, Urijah Faber, Benavidez again, and these guys I had to fight just to get to a UFC title. I believe the experiences I’ve had have made me unbeatable, the odds I was up against. I was fighting championship fighters just to et a title shot. There’s just a different level of fighters that I have against me, and TJ Dillashaw who has the belt.”

It’s hard to argue against Cruz’s record, as he holds two wins over both Faber and Benavidez, he beat Demetrious Johnson in his last defense of the title, and of course crushed Takeya Mizugaki. “The Dominator” also credits his gym for helping him improve in to the fighte we saw at UFC 178:

“”My coach Eric Del Fierro every day puts me in a nasty little box, where he offers a knockout bonus for me in the gym every day. If somebody puts me down in training, my coach gives them 200 dollars before they leave the gym. There’s no holes in my game that my coach doesn’t try to get them to attack.”

So it looks like Dominick Cruz will continue to become a better fighter while with Alliance MMA, but will his body hold out long enough for another run at the title. It remains to be seen whether Cruz gets an immediate title shot, but the MMA world is certainly clamouring for that fight.
