Dennis Bermudez Feels Ricardo Lamas Has More Pressure Heading In To UFC 180
One of the hottest fighters in the UFC right now is No. 7-ranked featherweight Dennis “The Menace” Bermudez. The surging New York native has racked up an ultra-impressive seven wins in a row and has looked better than ever. Since losing in The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 14 finale, Bermudez has been on an absolute tear; however, there was some criticism regarding the level of competition he faced. That was all laid to rest when “The Menace” choked out fan favorite and well-respected veteran Clay Guida at UFC on FOX 12 on July 26, 2014 in San Jose, California.
Bermudez’s win over Guida showed that he was ready to go up against the division’s elite and that is exactly what he will get to do on November 15, 2014 in Mexico City, Mexico against No. 4- ranked featherweight and former title challenger Ricardo Lamas. This is a huge test for “The Menace”; however he feels he matches up well against Lamas and actually feels like the pressure lies more on “The Bully” then it does himself. Bermudez spoke Saturday night (August 30, 2014) at a UFC 177 media scrum regarding the topic:
“The Ricardo Lamas fight is actually similar to the Clay Guida fight. He’s super tough, he’s not afraid to get in there and bang and he’s a wrestler, so just like the Clay Guida fight I think I have less to lose and more to gain then him, so there’s more pressure in his court and again I think I’m better than him just like with Clay in every aspect of MMA.”
Bermudez also admitted that he may have over trained in his previous fights, but that is all fixed now and he will be ready to go:
“There is such a thing as over training, and I think in my Holloway fight and in my Grice fight, I think I was slightly over trained, where as now I’m getting better because one I’m getting more confident in the ring and were getting better overall and then three, I’m not over trained. I’m feeling great so come fight night I’m feeling super fresh and ready to rock and roll.”

“The Menace” definitely seems confident, as he should be considering he is riding a seven-fight win streak and looking to extend that streak to eight. It will not be an easy task, however. Lamas is a tough competitor with solid experience. Bermudez has took the long road to moving up the ranks, and a win over Lamas could be the icing on the cake to getting his long awaited title shot.
