Dana White Says Anthony Pettis Is The #1 P4P Fighter

As we wait in anticipation of what will surely be a huge PPV card at UFC 181 tonight (Dec. 6th, 2014) UFC president Dana White has some pretty interesting things to say about Anthony Pettis. The lightweight champion will face Gilbert Melendez in the evening’s co-main event, as part of a double-header of title fights with Johny Hendricks vs Robbie Lawler 2.

Showtime” hasn’t fought since winning the belt in 2013 from Benson Henderson at UFC 164. His injury list as well as an appearance opposite “El Nino” on TUF has seen the last WEC 155-pound boss sat on the DL since last August. Now seemingly fit and ready to go, Pettis is the subject of pound-for-pound natter by White over at MMAFighting.com:

“Honestly, I think Pettis is the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, if the kid could stay healthy,” White said. “This kid is able to do things to people that other people can’t do. The famous run-off-the-cage kick. He bounces off the cage and hits people with knees. He’s so powerful with his kicks that once he kicks you, he hurts you immediately,” White said. “Human beings can’t take the kicks to the body that this kid throws.”

It’s interesting to consider that White has also said Renan Barao was number one, as well as Jon Jones, Chris Weidman, and just about anybody about to fight on a PPV card. Salt at the ready folks, as DW continues:

“I believe that kid is the pound-for-pound best,” White said. “He is an incredible athlete and has this style that’s incredibly hard to defend against.”

There it is, straight from the horse’s mouth. So rush out and spend 60 cents from the dollar on a UFC pay-per-view and just be ready for the DILLIGAF reaction if you don’t enjoy the show. In seriousness though, what would beating Melendez do for Anthony Pettis’ stock anyway?

Also, the eggs Benedict that would appear on the UFC president’s face if Gil were to top Pettis would be absolutely priceless. Is Anthony Pettis the number one P4P? Possibly, but he won’t move anywhere with a victory over “El Nino”, in my opinion.
