“Cyborg” Thinks Rousey Is Looking For An Easy Match In Carano, Plans On Fighting At 135 Pounds This Year

Ronda Rousey raised a few eyebrows last week when speaking about a rumoured fight with former Strikeforce featherweight champion, Gina Carano.

The UFC women’s bantamweight champion revealed she would be willing to move up to the 145 pound weight class to take on the retired star. But, not to fight anyone else.

It doesn’t take a genius to figure out “Rowdy” was referring to Invicta FC’s featherweight champion; Cristane Justino.

“Cyborg” has been campaigning for a fight with the bantamweight champion for some time now and recently said she will even attempt to move move down to 135 pounds to fight her; something which she previously said could kill her.

According to Justino, who spoke to MMAFighting recently, it was no surprise to hear Rousey say she would fight Carano at featherweight and thinks the UFC champion is trying to pick an easy fight:

“I wasn’t surprised because I knew how tough is for Gina to go down to 135, so (this fight) would need to be a catchweight,” Justino said. “Gina Carano is a great athlete and I’d happy if she returns to MMA, doesn’t matter if it’s against Ronda. But she hasn’t fought since 2009.

Her last fight was against me at Strikeforce, so I believe that Ronda thinks it’s such an easy fight that she would even move up. She knows that it would be different against me, especially because I already defeated Gina.”

“Cyborg” is set to fight later this month in a Muay Thai bout where she will take on Jorina Baars for the inaugural Lion Fight women’s welterweight championship, but she also plans on making her bantamweight debut in the cage sometime this year.

“My focus now is in my 145-pound title fight at Lion Fight,” Cyborg said. “I have many fights this year, and one of them will be at 135. People think that it’s just 10 pounds, but my normal weight is 165 pound of muscle with 4% of body fat,” she said. “Losing muscle is a hard job, but I’m working to lose weight and be prepared (to fight).”

But if Justino is fixed on fighting “Rowdy” it’s something she knows she is going to have to do. However, she is prepared to work hard and dedicate herself to doing just that.

“Obviously, I’m changing my diet and training. Nothing is impossible for God. My job is to work hard and do my best, dedicate in training and in my new diet. The rest is consequence.”

Do you think “Cyborg” will get the chance to face the UFC champion?

Sorry, I don't follow MMA as much as many LowKickers but is Cyborg even in the UFC? I didn't think she was and it seems to be that is a big hurdle for her to jump before she is essentially lobbying for a fight with Rousey.

Cyborg had a foot in the door of the UFC until Tito got involved and asked for a release. Here is verbatim of Dana's comments at media scrum

"We were going to sign her to a contract and then we were going to have her fight in Invicta, which means we'd pay all the bills for her to fight in Invicta. She'd be under a UFC contract with all the perks and benefits of being a UFC fighter, but would fight in Invicta. So instead of doing that, they chose to not do that and fight in Invicta. If you can make logic out of that whole fucking situation, you're a better man than I. We don't have a 145-pound division, so we're going back and forth with these guys in the deal. So I called Shannon Knapp, who owns Invicta, and said, 'Listen, if I do this deal with Cyborg, can you give her fights over there? I'll pay the bills, and you put on some fights over there until I can figure out how this whole thing is going to go down?' She said, 'Absolutely, no problem, we'd love to do it.' The next thing I know, Tito wants out of the contract and they sign with her."

People who know about cyborg pretty much know she would destroy rousey and has every right to lobby for a title fight with rousey as soon as she gets into the UFC, but as i said before im sure after she meets all the other stipulations dana puts in front of her to get into the ufc they will offer her a shitty contract as another obstacle for her and keep her as far away from rousey as possible.

I know cyborg and have no idea how should would crush rousey at 135. She won't be bigger and he stand up isn't good enough to stop Ronda's clentch. She comes strait forward with a Muay Thai stance. At 135 she will be cutting close to what rousey cuts and will have to rely on her skill to beat her. Yes carano is an easy fight. So are most all of cyborgs. How can she be so great if she has a list of cans most smaller than her. Marlos is her only high caliber fight IMO. Have her fight as high a ranked contender as possible and then give her the shot.

Cyborg vs Rousey is inevitable in a sports world where mma is trying to be taken seriously! The question is: Are we at this point already?
