*Updated* Cub Swanson vs Frankie Edgar Headline In Austin
It looks like the UFC featherweight division is heating up in a big way.
Rising star Conor McGregor will take on No. 5-ranked Dustin Poirier on the main card of this weekend’s (Sat., September 27, 2014) UFC 178 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena from Las Vegas, Nevada, and the 145-pound belt will be defended when champion Jose Aldo rematches No. 1-ranked Chad “Money” Mendes in the main event of UFC 179 from Rio de Janeiro.
Tonight, however, another blockbuster bout has been booked for the division, as the rumored Frankie Edgar vs. Cub Swanson bout has been booked for a UFC Fight Night card from Austin Texas on November 22. UFC Tonight broke the news just moments ago:

The co-main event slot features an action-packed bout between lightweights Bobby Green and Edson Barboza.
The No. 2-ranked Swanson most recently won a decision over a tough challenge in Jeremy Stephens, who had looked like a force since cutting down to featherweight. He has won six straight fights overall, with his last loss coming to a Ricardo Lamas submission at UFC on FOX 1 way back in 2011.
Former lightweight champion Edgar was last seen finishing the legendary B.J. Penn in the main event of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) Finale on July 6. He’s ranked directly behind Swanson at No. 3.
He’s won two straight since losing a title bid against Aldo at UFC 156 in February 2013.
The winner of this bout will most likely be the next contender for the featherweight title; indeed they should be. But as the story goes, we’ll most likely have to see what happens between Poirier and McGregor this weekend.
