Conor McGregor: Everything I Touch Turns To Gold

The anticipation and hype around UFC 189’s blockbuster main event between featherweight king Jose Aldo and outspoken Irish sensation Conor McGregor was already booming, and the media tour that is currently going on has put this bout as possibly the biggest in UFC history.

The brash trash-talking challenger is quite a spectacle, and he could quite possibly be the sport’s biggest draw as of now, having already broken records for views on FOX Sports 1 in his recent fights. McGregor is expecting a huge pay day, and nothing less than to headline the biggest show in the history of the sport come July 11, 2015.

Speaking with MMAFighting’s Ariel Helwani, the “Notorious” one even went as far to say that he will be taking in boatloads of cash, racking up more than three times as much as the champion will make:

“Money-wise? (I will make) more than the gate. I will make a hell of a lot of money. I am on the PPV now. I get a PPV cut. I will make 3 times more than Jose, and that is still not fair.”

The truth of this statement is unclear, but I don’t think many would be surprised if McGregor will indeed make more than Aldo. The Irishmen has a way with the microphone. He knows exactly what to say to promote a fight and exactly what to say to ignite the interest of fans.

McGregor continued on talking about the amount of pay-per-view (PPV) buys he’s anticipating. Ronda Rousey is also considered one of the UFC’s biggest draws and the “Notorious” one claims that he will triple Rousey’s PPV numbers at UFC 189 based solely on his presence:

“(Ronda Rousey’s) PPV numbers are phenomenal, but I will, at least, triple it. Easily (over a million buys), I believe it breaks all records. Everything I do smashes records. Everything I touch turns to gold.”
