Cody McKenzie Loses Pint Of Blood To Make Weight

A Cody McKenzie blood draw is always the best way to get your MMA show going, right?

The Battlegrounds O.N.E weigh-ins went down on Thursday (October 2nd, 2014) in anticipation for their eight-man welterweight tournament. All fighters on the card made weight but it wasn’t without incident. Rather controversially, UFC veteran Cody McKenzie drew a pint of blood to make the 171-pound welterweight limit after missing the mark by 1.4 pounds.

There is no word from the Ohio State Athletic Commission as of yet, but it’s likely that McKenzie will be able to refresh himself from his impromptu blood shed as long as this isn’t a regular occurrence. Even so, is there really room for this sort of risky behaviour in modern MMA? The 26 year-old “AK Kid” looked sloppy at lightweight in his final UFC bout with Jeremy Stephens, and will look to shine in a group of UFC cast-offs in the PPV streamed card.

The most known names on the card actually come from the commentary booth; WWE legend Jim Ross will sit alongside UFC flopper Chael Sonnen to walk us through the action. Check out the Battlegrounds O.N.E eight-man tourney weigh-ins results (after the Coday McKenzie blood spill):
