Cody Gibson Bar Brawl “Not My Proudest Moment”

The late night Cody Gibson bar brawl video wasn’t really a huge slip up, but the UFC code of conduct could have been breached….

UFC bantamweight Cody Gibson had a pretty rough night at UFC 178, but nowhere near as embarrassing was his loss to Manny Gamburyan that night, in comparison to his late night bar brawl that spread across the web. Gibson was pictured giving his opponent a somewhat foolish set of gestures before eating a flush punch to the jaw.

What followed was a series of half-hearted takedown attempts by the UFC bantamweight, as his foe looked to sink in a fight ending choke. To be fair to the meat head in the video, he was probably just copying “The Anvil”. Anyway, Gibson spoke to Sherdog about the infraction, and said the following:

“When I woke up this morning, I definitely had that pit in the bottom of my stomach, like, ‘Holy crap. Could I be that guy?’ You know, who gets fired over some stupid stuff. I didn’t think that it would be on TMZ… I have 1,800 followers on Twitter. I’m not [Clayton] Kershaw. I’m not [Derek] Jeter. I’m not Jon Jones. This guy was being a typical kind of bro and started saying some stuff to me. At first, I told him I did not want to fight, two or three times. He was definitely egging on the situation, and then he started to irritate me. Then I told him who I was, which was probably the worst idea, because then, after that, I feel like he really wanted to fight. And then, yeah, man, one thing led to another.”

“I don’t know, man. [It’s] definitely not something I’m proud of… I work with high school kids and I do a lot with the youths. Especially in my community, I’m definitely a role model. This is not the message I want to give to the kids. I think I’d just try to get out of the situation altogether, walk away to the best of my ability. Looking back on it, it’s definitely not going to be a highlight of my career.”

So there you have it, Gibson gives the impression that being punched in the face on video isn’t so bad, right? I mean, if Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier can beat the crap out of eachother, surely shouting “Google me bitch” isn’t all that bad?

The truth is that the UFC will use their code of conduct as and when they please, will they look to save paying Gibson any more wages as he is 1-2 for the promotion, or do they have bigger plans for the young feisty 135-pounder?
