Bobby Green vs. Jorge Masvidal Added To Stacked UFC 178 Card

Rising UFC lightweights Bobby Green and Jorge Masvidal both picked up huge wins at last Saturday night’s (July 26, 214) UFC on FOX 12 from the SAP Center in San Jose, California.

The California-born “King” picked up what ranks as the biggest win of his career when he outpointed hometown favorite Josh Thomson, shooting him up six spots in the rankings to No. 7. Green sits with an impressive 4-0 record in the Octagon.

Meanwhile, former Strikeforce title challenger Masvidal put an end to talented striker Daron Cruickshank’s surge, defeating “The Detroit Superstar” with a dominating decision. The No. 14-ranked “Gamebred” ran his UFC record to 4-1 in the process, his only loss coming to tough No. 11-ranked Rustam Khabilov.

Now, the two talented fighters’ paths are set to cross at September 27’s UFC 178 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena. It’s a pivotal bout that will give the winner prime bargaining position in one of them most stacked divisions in the sport. With long-injured champion Anthony Pettis finally returning to defend the title against Gilbert Melendez at UFC 181 on December 6, Green and Masvidal will throw down with dire implications on the line.

UFC 178 features a light heavyweight title grudge match between champion Jon Jones and newly booked No. 1 contender Daniel Cormier. The blockbuster card also boasts the awaited returns of Dominick Cruz and No. 1-ranked women’s bantamweight Cat Zingano.

Here’s a full rundown of the explosive card:

Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier – light heavyweight title bout
Conor McGregor vs. Dustin Poirier
Bobby Green vs. Jorge Masvidal
Dominick Cruz vs. Takeya Mizugaki
Tim Kennedy vs. Yoel Romero
Amanda Nunes vs. Cat Zingano

I have a feeling Green will get this done. He made me a believer after the Thompson fight because I think Thompson can take Jorge.

damn…i think this is an even more difficult fight for jorge masvidal than the one he was asking for against donald cerrone…i give green the upper hand in this one….but i still hope jorge masvidal can pull this off.

i saw this on bloody elbow and its pretty much what i was thinking lol: Translation = “We didn’t expect/want either of these guys to win, so we will cancel one of them out by having them fight each other.”

I think Green is an awesome fighter. If he were in WW division he might be a top 4 guy. At LW….damn…talent is soooo deep. As good as he is….I can't see him beating Bendo, Gil, Pettis, Aldo (when he comes), Edgar (if he returns).

I would love to see him against Nate Diaz. The talking would be awesome. I think a fight with Cerrone or Miller would be interesting. Its crazy that guys with the skill of Cerrone and Miller are gatekeepers in this division.
