UFC Fight Night 57 co-main contender Bobby Green opens up about his life as a fighter…..

UFC lightweight Bobby Green may be known to fans for his smooth boxing style, and impressive current eight-fight win streak. He returns to action this Saturday (November 22nd, 2014) to face dangerous knockout artist Edson Barboza, in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 57 in Austin, Texas.

Over the years, “King” has earned a reputation as a somewhat cocky, perhaps arrogant fighter; a reputation that, according to Green himself, is a misconception. After hearing the Strikeforce veteran saying he might retire after facing “Junior” at Fight Night 57, fans have questioned Green’s will to continue in the sport.

For the first time since the Facebook post declaring he may retire, “King” talks openly to MMAJunkie about retirement, and his life as a fighter, check it out:

“(Retirement) is just something I’m considering. I’ve been at 155 for 14 years, it’s just something I’ve been considering. I just want to take it one day at a time. I feel like people don’t know who I am, the life of a fighter is rough. We don’t know what’s gonna happen. It’s just the life, I don’t know what I’m gonna do. It’s more about when this isn’t fun anymore, when it becomes more work than what I wanna do.”

“I’m misunderstood. People think that I’m cocky, and I don’t give a F about nothing. My brother was just killed, and people come at me on social media and talk about my dead mother. People have no compassion for another human beings and that’s not what I’m about, you have to have thick skin in this sport. It’s been rough, I had one brother killed and another shot, I got racism and death threats to deal with, it’s just hard.”

If you have time, you should definitely listen to the entire 19-minute interview. It casts Green in a different light than I’ve ever seen him in before, and also illuminates the difficulties associated with gaining fame and notoriety in the public eye.

Will the hard times impact Green’s performance on Saturday night, or will he use them to make himself stronger? If it’s the former, we may well see “King” Bobby Green call it quits on a 6-year career that has only really just started to take off…..
