“Bigfoot” Silva To Undergo Surgery Tuesday

Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva returned to the octagon on September 13, 2014 after serving a nine-month suspension due to elevated testosterone levels. Many considered the Brazilian to be the favorite despite the layoff; however, fans were utterly surprised when “Bigfoot” suffered a brutal first round knockout loss to Andrei Arlovski. The loss may not be his only problem.

News broke today (September 22, 2014) that Silva would undergo surgery this week to remove a pituitary tumor that has reemerged and will most likely be out of the cage for quite some time once again. He spoke to MMAFighting.com regarding the topic:

“I should leave the hospital [next] Monday.”

Although Silva predicts he will leave the hospital by next week, he suffers from acromegaly and there is currently no timetable for his return.

This is a tough blow for the Brazilian. Despite his recent rough patch, there is no doubt “Bigfoot” is one of the top heavyweights in the UFC. However, with another long layoff and what seems to be a serious issue, how do we know he will return the same fighter? That is if he does return. “Bigfoot” currently sits at 2-3-1 in the UFC.

We here at Lowkick MMA wish Silva the best and we hope he has a speedy recovery.
