However you felt about Anderson Silva before his string of failed drug screens, you have to say that it was a very unexpected sequence of events. In some ways, the story of “The Spider” mirrors that of his countryman Wanderlei Silva. Both well loved and respected Brazilian MMA legends, falling in to controversy with the NSAC (Nevada State Athletic Commission) in the twilight of their careers.

It marked the end of a violently entertaining career for “The Axe Murderer”, the results of Silva’s infractions are yet to be revealed, but the damage may already be done. The former Pride FC middleweight champion has released another video to his Youtube account, this time showing support for “The Spider”:

“How can we explain the unexplainable? We have to understand this fighter’s legacy will never be changed and can never be touched. Anderson is the man. He became the man. He is our modern Bruce Lee. We have to understand that all geniuses have a crazy side to them. That is the way he is. It will please some and not please others, but it’s his ingeniousness. We must recognize that. No matter what happened, we can’t question his talent. We’ve all seen it with our own eyes. I trained with him for years and he is exceptional, he really can do amazing things. So I am here to support the athlete. Always. Anderson you are our champion. Congratulations for all that you have achieved.”

“For the path you walked to give all the athletes a better status. Congratulations to you. God bless. And everything will pass. You will come back, just like you already did, in a surprising fashion. I was very happy to see you win. God will bless you again and time moves on. Who knows what will happen once this storm passes? I’ll never doubt Anderson Silva. This will pass and he can come back to kick some butts and get that belt back. Who knows?” quotes from MMAMania

The NSAC will have the last word on how the next years of Anderson Silva’s life will play out, and it could be pretty harsh judging by this recent news. Wanderlei Silva takes a much more supportive stance than his friend Fabricio Werdum, who said the former middleweight champ should retire after this recent debacle.
