Alexander Gustafsson Faces Glover Teixeira At UFC Fight Night 69 In Berlin

Alexander Gustafsson

Alexander Gustafsson is headed for another headlining bout in Europe.

The former light heavyweight title contender will face Glover Teixeira in the main event of the upcoming UFC Fight Night 69 on June 20 from the O2 World in Berlin, Germany, according to a report from Kimura.se.

Speaking in an interview with MMA Crazy after today’s (Mon., March 30, 2015) UFC 189 World Championship Tour press conference in London, UFC President Dana White confirmed that Gustafsson would indeed face Teixeira this June from Berlin:

“It’s true. I am confirming it is true. Yes.”

Gustafsson recently saw his hopes for a rematch with divisional kingpin Jon Jones disappear when he lost a pivotal main event scrap against new title contender Anthony “Rumble” Johnson at UFC on FOX 14 in his native Sweden, sending “The Mauler” down a few notches on the 205-pound totem pole.

He’ll look to rebound from the only knockout loss of his career against a fellow former title challenger in Teixeira, who stormed into the UFC with five straight wins before dropping a dominant decision to Jones at last April’s UFC 172 and losing his follow-up bout to the grinding wrestling of Phil Davis at last October’s UFC 179.

The defeats snapped a 20-fight unbeaten streak for the Brazilian slugger.

Teixeira was briefly linked to a UFC Fight Night 61 bout with former champion Rashad Evans before he withdrew with an injury as “Suga” re-aggravated his knee and was forced to the sidelines. Gustafsson presents a significantly more difficult challenge as he attempts to get back on track towards a title shot, making this an absolutely crucial bout for both fighters to stay afloat in the shark-infested 205-pound talent pool.
