Wanderlei Silva prepares for UFC 139 co-main event fight with Cung Le

On Sunday, “The Axe Murderer” Wanderlei Silva will step inside the UFC Octagon for the 7th time in his MMA career, this time fighting Cung Le in the co-main event of UFC 139 in San Jose, California. Thirty-five year old Silva won only twice in the UFC, via TKO against Keith Jardine and Unanimous Decision vs. Michael “The Count” Bisping. Siva and Le share 40 KO/TKO victories (Le’s Kickboxing record combined), which promises MMA fans at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California, a sure Fight of the Year candidate.

Cung Le is a great striker and Sansho practeitioner, however itt is a combination similar to a cross between Tae Kwon Do and Judo with Striking, kicks sweeps and throws. His scissor double leg takedown is useless and hasnt been used in his MMA career. I have yet to see Cung tested on the ground. He has been away filming movies and last time he came back from a layoff, got Koed by Scott Smith.

This is a very winnable fight for Silvaand I expect him to rush Cung, take him down and try to smash him early. War Silva, Cungs game, or lack thereof, has already been exposed. Do what you do best. DESTROY.

Silva will have quite a size advantage so it will be interesting to see how le deals with it. He should really be fighting at WW and despite gassing and getting caught against Smith he owned him for the majority of that fight. He has a very entertaining style and is easily the more talented of the two, though I do think he will be giving up significant physical advantages agsint Silva, who really should be retiring.
