Lyota doesnt makes since because he already beat him why take a step back..winner of rashad/davis would be cool but your looking at an even longer time before a LH title defense!!!
May 29, 2011 at 8:07 am
I wen for Machida because i believe a rematch would be a lot better, Machida would be less passive = more action. If not he has to get a title shot, why have two challenger’s in Davis and Evans fight each other to face Rampage instead having two possible challenger’s that road would lead them to one challenger. I don’t even agree with the Davis v Evans, if Jones is gonna be as dominant as we all assume, the UFC should just line up all these top guys for and do their best to make sure they don’t ALL beat each other.

Evans vs. Davis winner is already in line for a title shot.
Machida…. why is that even an option.
Jones needs a fight, and Rampage didn’t get hurt at all. He won’t want to sit out and wait for the winner of Davis vs Evans, so I think Rampage will get the next shot.

Jones or winner of Shogun/Griffin
May 29, 2011 at 8:49 am
The blind judges gave rampage the fight with machida. Rematch is the most fair. Lifes not fair. Just to point out machida ko’d the sit out of Randy. Rampage did not finsh (though dominate) a guy not in the top five. Rematch machida. Winner gets jones. Next guy fight Evans or Davis winner. This is why tournaments help. Who knows what’s really the best match up. Let em fight it out to see.

You’re spot on with winner of Shogun-Griffin… Rampage has been vocal about avenging both of those losses, so that probably makes the most sense. I do think that Rampage does offer some interesting challenges for Jones, but he barely squeaked by Machida, which some people believe Lyoto won that fight and then tonight’s performance was nothing to write home about.. I dunno, just my opinion tho.
May 29, 2011 at 9:43 am
Actually, you are incorrect. I was surprised to hear it as well, but Dana said that if Rampage won tonight and emerged without injuries, he would probably get the next shot. Why? I’m not sure. Probably because Evans won’t have a lot of time to prepare for Jones and they don’t want to push his first title defense back to 2012. Which I question their decision to pass up such a hyped fight between Evans and Jones, but they probably figure they can sell a Rampage vs Evans rematch as well if need be.

Other than the jones fight, Hamill has only been finished by a body kick. Hes not easy to knockout. And Couture, while not easy to knockout, is 47 years old. The Machida Rampage fight doesnt make much sense because Rampage did win, even though many people think Machida was robbed it would do nothing but force Jones to wait longer and the UFC does not want that.

I choose OTHER.
Jackson has lost the eye of the tiger. Is it just me or did anyone else think that Rampage held back a little?
This is not the Rampage I remember. On five separate occasions, Quinton showed NO killer instinct. He rocked Hamill at one point in the second round and instead of swarming on Matt (like he would’ve in ’07) he just stood there and watched Hamill recover.
May 29, 2011 at 11:25 am
If he fights any body other then Rashad or Jon Jones he would be taking a step backwards and i dont see how that would make any since…plus who cares dana already said if his hand is ok he gets the shot so Owell!!!
May 29, 2011 at 3:11 pm
yes agreed, he shouldnt get a title shot after beating Hamill, Rampage vs Griffin/Shogun makes the most sense for a contendership spot
May 29, 2011 at 7:47 pm
shogun/griffin would be absolutely dead on. either he gets the chance to avenge a loss, and also prepare himself for jones. as at this stage i don’t think he could last 2 rounds with jones.
another thing is with talking about why rampage doesn’t throw leg kicks. he clearly doesn’t throw them to make it less likely for wrestlers to take him down, as he wants to keep it standing, or thats what i think the reason for it is.
May 29, 2011 at 8:37 pm
I really can’t see how Rampage would take a step back if he fought Shogun. I think he should fight Shogun if Griffin loses or he should fight Jon Jones if Rashad barely gets by Davis and also if Shogun loses to Griffin.
May 29, 2011 at 10:47 pm
yeah like he beat him so bad.
May 29, 2011 at 11:05 pm
I agree with winner of Shogun/Griffen for #1 contender spot
May 30, 2011 at 12:30 am
Rampage had a better performance than people are giving him credit for that was one of the best displays of boxing and ttd i have seen in a while. Rampage is no2-3 lwh right now and i think if that same Rampage that fought last night were to fight Jones it would be Jones’ first true challenge.
May 30, 2011 at 1:12 am
Other, Shogun or Forrest
May 30, 2011 at 1:13 am
but i can see it being Jones, that fight would be about as promotable as you can get
May 30, 2011 at 2:27 am
ya I agree. If anything reshad has been waiting for long and beat rampage, who also beat machida.. he hasnt lost in a while after beating some top guys and especially after jones backing out then coming back the winner of davis and rashad should get it for sure. But ya forest or shogun would be a sick fight just because it would be such a test for shogun and it would give rampage another chance to avenge his leg kick loss to forest lol. Im excited to see what happens but ya I totally agree

I think that Rampage should fight Jon Jones next based on timing. No one else is available till August and the Machida part II fight doesn’t make sense at the moment. If he fights Jones then he can either win and defend the title against Rashad or lose and end up fighting Shogun or Griffin. I think it’s win win and all of those fights sell in my opinion. Yes, I said defend against Rashad because I think Rashad is going to destroy Phil Davis. Phil just isn’t ready for that type of heat in my opinion. You never know though in this sport.
