I can see Penn getting the dec, standing with Diaz a bit and attempting a lot of tds to score points. Bj is strong at 170 and if he is in shape, Diaz is gonna slide down the cool ladder very fast.

This is a real exciting fight and tough to call, both fighters have the same strengths. Both excellent boxers with slick jiu jitsu games.

Penn’s got the better pure jiu jitsu credentials but when it comes to the mma game I’d give that to Diaz. Penn hits harder than Diaz but Diaz’ power is deceptive and of course the punches in bunches he’s known for. I’d say it’s a toss up on the feet right now. Penn should have a clear advantage in the wrestling department so if he gets in trouble on the feet he could always take Diaz down.

This should be a real interesting fight whether it’s on the feet or on the ground, I’m picking Penn to win a decision but wouldn’t be shocked to see a late tko by Diaz if Penn gasses out there.

BJ will try and stand with Diaz for a round or two. By the time he realizes this is a mistake he wont be in any shape to sucessfully shoot. Takedowns will fail and Diaz will win a TKO. I think…

Diaz won’t show up, and Penn will end up fighting Meathead at open weight.

Exactly my thoughts. I picked penn by decision based on a good 1st throgh 3rd rounds and lacking in the 4th and 5th. it’s like they’re both fighting themselves in this one.

I seriously doubt that. Diaz has never lost decisively in the ufc. All his losses were too close to call. Apparently nobOdy has actually watched Diaz fight who says he does poorly against wrestlers. He stuffed Sherk and kept him from taking him down, he reversed and punished Sanchez from his guard… I think if u understand technique u would know this kid is here to stay.

The thing is we dont know how good his TD defense is anymore cause he’s been fed guys who just wanted to trade punches with him in Strikeforce.
Bj surprised Fitch and took him down. It says something about BJ physically and strategically. Maybe Diaz will do good but theres a question mark surrounding Diaz’s wrestling abilities. I wanna see him against gsp, fitch, ellenberger… guys who will nullify his stand up by repeatedly taking him down and overpowering him, and we’ll see if the kid is here to stay. Diaz is a good fighter but i was never on his hype train. Success in the ufc will make me change my mind for sure.

Penn by decision. Diaz will never get a decision call. If he doesn’t end it, he won’t get the nod by the judges. I don’t think the judges are fans of Diaz, based on previous decisions…Penn’s takedown was nice against Fitch and I was really impressed. Penn loves to counter punch and Diaz loves to throw at all times. It will be interesting. I want Diaz to win, but just think Penn is too tough…and when Diaz starts throwing his hands up calling him a female dog, Penn is going to go HAM.

If its gunna go to a division its gunna go for nick
If its gunna end in a submission its gunna be nick
If its gunna be a KO/TKO its gunna be penn.
But honestly I see this is going to nick diaz by decision

It wouldn’t surprise if the fight was a draw, I see BJ being dominant for a round and a half and then fading, although if he hurts Diaz I expect him to finish, Diaz can be finished if you don’t let him recover. That being said BJ’s cardio is always an issue, people talk about how he prepares but I’m not buying it. Some guys no matter how hard they work just don’t have good cardio. I thinks its also worth mentioning that the fights we have seen where BJ doesn’t gas are when he’s in control and controling the pace. If Diaz pushes the pace BJ will gas 100% no matter how well he has prepared.

Good cause he has two of mma’s great wrestlers to train with at Ceasar Gracie. I think he will do fine. He also has some of mma’s best bjj.

He had a hard time with Daley? It didn’t get to the third round and he won by tko. What fight were you watching. He beat Daley senseless. Sure he was dropped but he fought reckless.

Paul Daley is one of the hardest hitters in the Welterweight division and Nick Diaz took his best shots. If Paul Daley couldn’t KO Nick Diaz then I say that BJ Penn will not be able to either. If it was a 5 round fight then I would say that Nick Diaz outworks and finishes BJ Penn in the late rounds. Since it is a 3 round fight, I don’t know. The decision could go either way.

Sanchez dominated Diaz on the ground for 3 rounds?
Also I know MMA math doesn’t work out but its neat to remember that the two people you mentioned having close calls with Diaz were smashed by BJ while they were in their primes.

Diaz will smoke a bone before the fight, and then throw a gogplata on Penn in a drugged haze. Later on he will get DQ’ed and thrown in jail for shoplifting potato chips at a local gas station.
