for the people that think AS looks so big just look at him here he is definetly smaller than Machida.

I doubt he will, but there’s a very slim chance.

How come? Silva’s frame is way bigger than the one of Machida. If SIlva was Fedor, he would fight at Heavyweight.

These two look like cans nothing special here, looks like amateur hour. brock would tap these two out in seconds!!

Are you kidding. Taller isn’t bigger. Silva is much smaller in build than Rampage, Forrest, Jon Jones, Lyoto, Shogun, Bader, Randy, Tito, etc. He would be a small LHW but he would be just as tall.

Silva has a slim build and walks around at 220, Machida is wider and thicker. He could easily fight at 205 as we all know but if ain’t broken there’s nothing to fix. Silva could still win some fights at LHW but I could see Rashad holding him down for 3 rounds with minimal fuss he’s way more explosive thn Sonnen. Plus Rashad is huge I reckon he walks around at at least 235 probably more than that doe

Not sure what video you were looking at, Silva is clearly bigger then Machida.

Interesting to see just how much better Machidas ground game is then Silvas, both in takedowns and subs seemed pretty one sided.

i wonder who your next favorite fighter is going to be after jon jones dominates shogun rua. you sound like one of those fedor fans that jumped ship after he lost.

no rashad won the TUF 2 at around 215-220 lbs, numerous times its been said he could probably even drop to 185

I wouldn’t put to much into this video as it is only sparring and it seems they are well into their workout

  25. Profile photo of falcon4917

    February 24, 2011 at 10:16 pm

yes but the takedowns seemed more like practicing takedown defence rather than AS looking for such things. I doubt this is a clear story of the differences between them. Neither look like they are doing everything possible and both seem to be experimenting and trying different manouvers. I noticed too that both seemed very elusive in the kickboxing area even for each other. I noticed also the front kick thrown by AS. Styles do make fights and I can see Lyoto being a problem for AS even though AS dominated Franklin better.

    February 24, 2011 at 10:32 pm

As far as I know AS has said before that in sparring that Machida does get the upper hand more often but we’ll never know in a real fight what the outcome since Andersons striking can obviously stop you long before you get a chance to expose his faults. Would be interesting to see them fight and in a real fight I would still pick silva based on his killer instinct and Machidas catch me if you can approach. In sparring where there is little danger with the strikes I can see why Machida would be very aggressive and use his size and strength to get the upper hand.

Gotta love the respect between most of these fighters, you can tell there was never bad blood between these two where egos clashed. just two great fighters trying to better themselfs

I’m pretty sure this is Anderson Silva training Machida for the Couture fight. That’s why Silva is taking lots of punches, getting taken down and getting submitted. He’s letting Machida do it. He’s giving some resistance but not much.

i disagree, i think lyoto might be the only man who could beat jones. lyoto is still a bit of puzzle and he could pose problems to jones. of course this is all speculation and the only way we could know for sure is if the fight happened. it would be an interesting fight though, if lyoto can get back to his winning ways.

I am a massive Fedor fan and always have and will be. Most Fedor fans are long term MMA fans and dont just ride the nuts of the most popular fighter (ie brock). Sure fedor got dominated by Silva in the second round to such an extent the fight was stopped, but he is still an amazing fighter even if his best days are behind him. A sign of what a true fighter fedor is was highlighted by how he took that beating all the while trying to defend himself and even attempting a submission right on the bell, rather than just tucking up like many many fighters do and hope to not get hit.

Rashad has been putting on weight more recently though. He said himself he started his last camp at 237. He could still get down if he wanted to but he’d have to start shedding that muscle he’s been putting on. He looked bigger that before when he fought Rampage.
