Dave Herman: I predict a 2nd round TKO at UFC 146

UFC Heavyweight Dave ”Pee-Wee” Herman has been known for his outspoken behavior during his brief tenure with the promotion. He ruffled the feathers of many when he discounted the true effectiveness of BJJ after UFC 131 where he handily defeated submission whiz Jon-Olav Einemo. However, he has since lost to BJJ practitioner Stefan Struve, who mounted him on the ground to earn the TKO last February. Does that change Herman’s stance on arguably the most fundamental of all martial arts used in MMA? Not hardly, as Herman had the following to say:

“I mean even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while, but Jiu-Jitsu is pretty much a waste of time. However, if I were to teach self defense to a girl I would teach her Jiu-Jitsu because jits is pretty much how a smaller/weaker person might be able to trick you into losing. So for self defense for girls I think it’s great.” – via MMASucka.com

Herman never seems to be afraid to stoke the fire, as he prefers to stand and throw heavy leather in his bouts. With a UFC record of 1-1, it remains to be seen if his daring style will vault him to the top of the UFC Heavyweight division. He will face a stiff test in Roy “Big Country”” Nelson on Saturday at UFC 146, and with both fighters needing a win to stay relevant, we should have a war on our hands. Herman thinks it will go his way quite convincingly, saying:

“I predict a 2nd round TKO and the only way that won’t happen is if there’s a 1st round TKO.”
