Cro Cop vs Pat Barry, Ben Rothwell vs Gilbert Yvel

Despite speculation Mirko Cro Cop would meet his original UFC 110 opponent, “Big” Ben Rothwell, at UFC 115, its now been confirmed he will instead face Pat Barry.

All the more unusual is that Pat Barry was expected to face gilbert Yvel at the same event, but instead of Cro Cop vs Rothwell, and Barry vs Yvel, it’s now Mirko Cro Cop vs Pat Barry, and Ben Rothwell vs Gilbert Yvel.

Both fights join at already stacked card at UFC 115 in Vancouver, Canada, which will be headlined by Liddell vs Ortiz III.

The full card is currently:

Mike Pyle vs. Jesse LennoxPeter Sobotta vs. James WilksCarlos Condit vs. Rory MacDonaldEvan Dunham vs. Tyson GriffinBen Rothwell vs. Gilbert YvelMirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic and Pat BarryYoshihiro Akiyama vs. Wanderlei SilvaChuck Liddell vs. Tito Ortiz

I tend to think that styles make matchups, and now we have Cro Cop vs. Pat barry and Yvel vs. Rothwell, which seems more intriguing to me.

wow, Barry has some wicked leg kicks, his legs are like tree trunks and hes taken out plenty of guys with kicks alone.
I hope Crocop learns from his kicks, I dont see Crocop winning this one sad to say.
Mirko keeps a lot of weight on his front foot & hes flat footed, this does’nt look good for Mirko.

Barry was pushing for the fight when Ben pulled out, but they gave it to Perosh and now, I guess they decided to let Barry fight, since he hasnt been given any good matchups in a while & the UFC knows Barry can be one of the next big things in the UFC.

Awesome this should be a good maatch up hopefully cro cop’s cardio will be up to scratch

Yeah, I’m a huge cro cop fan, but another way I see this turn of events is as follows: Pat Barry is an up-and-comer, and Cro Cop is appearing to be washed up. A victory by Barry over Cro cop and Barry becomes a HW within the mix. If Cro Cop wins over this (you’ve heard it before) ‘young, hungry lion’ then Cro Cop is back. I think its also Cro Cop’s last legitimate fight in the UFC if he loses…he may cost too much for the UFC to hang onto if he doesn’t start producing some results. To be honest, he hasn’t impressed with his 3 wins over cans (Anthony Perosh, Al-Turk, Eddie Sanchez), and every time he needs to step up and take on someone legit (Gonzaga, Kongo, JDS) it hasn’t been working out for him.

    It’s a win-win situation for the UFC.
