BJ Penn promises to finish Edgar

BJ Penn had a lot to say to newly crowned champ Frankie Edgar during a promotional interview for their upcoming bout at UFC 118.

“I’m going to knock him out or submit him or slam him on his head and have him get knocked out from that. I’m all about finishing my guy and I cannot wait to finish him. After it’s done I want him to look at me and think ‘That’s what it’s like to fight BJ Penn, that’s what it’s like to fight the world champion,'” Penn says.

“He’s going to be running around. He’s just going to try and jazz up what he did last time. A little quicker, a little better, maybe throw a kick. He can run around all he wants, sooner or later he’s going to have to step up to me and he’s going to have to do something and when that happens, that’s going to be the time.”

BJs conditioning and work ethic has always seemed to be a problem but after his recent loss to Welterweight champion George St Pierre it looked like he really got his act together and started training more seriously than ever before. Now After lossing the title people are again beginning to question how serious BJ is taking his training… Penn only had one thing to say to that

“If anyone thinks I’m in Hilo sitting on my ass, they’re crazy.”

UFC 118 will head to Boston, MA for the first time ever on August 28

be careful what you promise “baby” jay

  • sickb

frankie edgar sucks hope he gets his ass wooped

  • TheRealDeal

I don’t exactly see where Penn “promised” to finish Edgar, but it’s good to see him really fired up about the rematch. Every fighter should go into a fight with a certain confidence of how they want the fight to go. I’m not sure if Penn got too “comfy” as the champion, underestimated Edgar, or what the situation was, but this fight has all the makings to be far more exciting than the first one.

I will be very surprised if Edgar wins the rematch.

  • japanegro23

Oh he sounds motivated now. I’m sure we will see the best BJ this time.

  • partyboy

bj penn motivated is a very dangerous thing, i hope edgars training hard

  • azzkika

Frankie Edagr sucks? He is LW champ you fool, in one the toughest divisions.

BJ may win rematch, but I’m not sure he good enough to beat Frankie. I expect him to be too slick for BJ again.

  • azzkika

Why? Edgar has beat many top names and is excellent in several separtments such as footwork, cardio, head movement and most omportantly winning. I think it will be a very tough match for BJ and he will have to be at his very very best if he is to finsh Edgar. I will be surprised if BJ manages it and reckon Edgar will give BJ a good azzkickin.

  • HugeCleavage

Give me a break! BJ got robbed the first fight we all saw that. 30 days later no one will remember that edgar was the champ.

  • falcon4917

Well if that happens I will be surprised. I can’t stop thinking Edgar was doing everything in his power to flee in that fight. I think if BJ got a hold of him for any decent amount of time that Edgar would be out of his league. I am not saying I like BJ more than Edgar but I really feel if BJ had committed more in that fight it would have been a fairly lopsided win for him.

  • RAZE

Im not sure who will win but i has anyone noticed that they havent really given Frankie much media time since he became champ, its like they dont want to remember him as champ.

  • japanegro23

Good observation. I didn’t notice that. I wonder why that is. Isn’t the fight in Boston or somewhere around there? Frankie is from there isn’t he?

  • TheRealDeal

The fight is in Boston. Edgar is from Tom’s River, NJ, which is not too far from Boston. Maybe about 4 hours driving time.

  • azzkika

I think BJ is gonna be up for it also. Whoever wins it should a great match. I dunno why Edgar getting so much disrespect. He only has one loss and fights in the toughest division.
