Rumors Wildfire: Fedor will not fight at Strikeforce on CBS, Overeem bout in works

According to the recent report on, WAMMA Heavyweight Champion and arguably number one Pound for Pound fighter in the World – Fedor Emelianenko, will not fight Fabricio Werdum at the Strikeforce CBS event on April 17th.

Strikeforce management are still silent over the official fight card for the event, as rumors about a possible dispute between Fedor Emelianenko, M1-Global and Strikeforce are continuing to grow. One of “The Last Emperor’s” best friends Gegard Mousasi has already part ways with M-1, what adds another question marks to the situation.

With less than two months for the event, it looks like Scott Coker and his Strikeforce promotion will present a fight card headlined by the Middleweight Title bout between Jake Shields and Dan Henderson, as Bobby Lashley and Herschel Walker are also expected to take part in the event.

Meanwhile, suggests that Fedor’s next fight will be in Japan against the hulking Alistar Overeem, possibly at one of the next DREAM events. Alistair Overeem (32-11 in MMA) has already declared in his Dynamite 2009!! post-fight interview that Fedor Emelianenko is the only opponent he trains for. DREAM President Sadaharu Tanigawa has already confirmed that Overeem will fight for the vacant DREAM Heavyweight Title sometime in the first part of 2010, with one K-1 bout remaining on “The Demolition Man’s” contract.

Tanigawa is well known for his financial muscle, and it looks like the FEG President will splash the money to bring Fedor and Overeem against each other. Both men are known for their huge popularity in Japan, what could light a spark of a new era for the Japanese MMA scene.

Stay tuned to for an additional updates regarding the situation.

This might be the only fight i really care about at this time. That and the chance of Fedor fighting in the UFC.

I wonder if the Strikeforce title will be on the line as well, it has felt for a long time like this fight had to happen. We all knew Overeem wouldn’t fight in USA so this was the only logical outcome.

What will this fight prove again? That Fedor is the greatest fighter to ever fight in Strikeforce? Then he fights Werdum? Then who? Lashley?… Tim Sylvia again? Maybe Strikeforce will sign Dan Severn to fight him?

Why does it have to Prove anything……Its a fight worthy of the champ that Fedor is. Any true MMA fan would show nothing but respect and admiration for Fedor. I really dislike the current trend of disrespect and calling other fans nuthuggers. People who bash fighters are not genuine MMA fans. I am amazed by the skills and courage of any elite MMA fighter especially the greats like Couture, Fedor and Nog.
Instead of bashing fighters, go down to your local MMA school and sign up. You will soon develop a respectful attitude while you gasp for air and tap out in under a minute.

The only worthwhile fights left for Fedor are
    1) Lesnar – because he is HW champ
    2) Overeem – elite HW and very dangerous
    3) Velasquez – holy shit this guy is a beast and possibly next to become great

every fighter who rises octagon has something to prove, if you think that has nothing to prove but does not enter the octagon, stink never fought lesnar, veslaquez and junior dos santos, viewers believe they can win some of these stink if you did not but nothing to prove and I think I smell better than all these, do not enter the octagon quit his career. and firm as a legend but it stopped early. striforce because the stench will not prove anything but it has no match, fedor is fighting only for money.

Fedor fighting overeem for the DREAM heavyweight title is
more than any fan can ask!

if DREAM secures Fedor , DREAM could become PRIDE again!

i would love to see Fedor in the UFC , but him fighting on DREAM
is way better than him fighting at strikeforce!

I think Overeem wants to fight Fedor in Japan so that he can boost on steroids and actually stand a chance.

If he does not fight on strikeforce on CBS, strike force will not last much longer. If they can not get Fedor on that card then ther are gonna be done. Strikeforce cannot afford for him not to be there. It will be the beginning of the end. Even more so if he were to lose to overeem. I got nothing against Strikeforce but they need Fedor to keep any credibility, at least in the HW class.

Fedor owns part of M-1, it wouldnt be in his best interest to leave and bring the poifit down from his own investments.

    February 23, 2010 at 11:46 pm

Thats the main reason he isnt in the UFC right now & he wouldnt have signed with Strikeforce if he couldnt stay with M-1.
IF M-1 goes close to bankruptsy, he will then consider moving for his benefit.

The contract the UFC offered Fedor was the highest amount any MMA fighter would have ever secured in a contract, around $30 million, and that contract wouldn’t have been for more than about five fights, so if Fedor would of came to the UFC and reigned as the dominate heavyweight he would of made more money than he could ever possibly imagined with K 1.

I think Fedor is slowly waking up to the fact that if he really wants to test himself against the best in the world there’s only one place to be and it isn’t SF, don’t get me wrong i do like SF and the variety they bring to the sport, like the womens divisions etc and they do now have some quality fighters, just not in the HW division. Dream would be a move in the right direction imo, if it materialises but ultimately there’s only one place he can go to prove that he IS the best HW on the planet and that’s the UFC and to be honest, i think there’s a few fighters at HW in the UFC that would beat Fedor which is probably why he’s so reluctant in the first place…….

Its pretty hard for me to believe those rumors of 5 million a fight, the UFC doesnt even pay Lesnar a million a fight. No-one ever got a solid diclosure of what he was offered. Even Dana kept saying, lets just say it was a lot of money.

I agree with you i think fedor really wants to cement his legacy and the only way to do that is to fight the best out there and beating the likes of lashley or werdum (no offense) will not do him any favours. IMO i dont think fedor is reluctant to join the ufc because he thinks there are fighters there that can beat him.. the dude shows no ****ing emotion… i dont think he cares.. unfortunatly his management team think differently.

I asked a simple question, and you get offended for no reason. I didn’t say Fedor isn’t the best did I?

Any true MMA fan would let it go without criticism that Fedor is fighting bums in a crap organization. Period. There is legitimate competition for him, people who have a chance to beat him, not the roid-douche Overeerm, and not anybody in Strikeforce though.

It’s not about the money. Organizations like Affliction that pay huge purses, they simply tank. The UFC is a smarter business model, it’s better to have a sustainable organization to keep the sport alive. The good fighters make a lot of money with endorsements also.

Nobody can seriously believe that Fedor as the dominant UFC champion, wouldn’t be making a lot more money than he would anywhere else.

    It’s not about money.

  32. Profile photo of ston3pony

    February 24, 2010 at 7:12 am

Let’s just wait for Strikeforce to tank, and for the UFC to buy up the 3-4 worthy fighters. Then we get to see Fedor either leave MMA and retire, or fight real competition.

Im sure i speak for everyone, i never bash fedor, but fcuk man people deep throat him so badly. Fedors great, yeah i watched every fight of his in pride, has he impressed me lately? no not really, beating has-been HW champs of a lackluster old HW divison. Good fights, yeah, solid opponents, no…. U think tim sylvia would beat brock or mir? never, arlovski? would get KO’d by struve.

I like fedor, but M1 is holding back his career and robbing us of legendary fights, which would all take place in the UFC (Besides Overeem) So people arent bashing Fedor, theyre bashing his homo fan base…

  35. Profile photo of ston3pony

    February 24, 2010 at 12:37 pm

Agreed. Acknowledging that Fedor is not fighting anybody, that he’s not in a legitimate organization, does not constitute Fedor-bashing, it’s simply reality. There is nobody in Strikeforce to challenge him. Even in Japan with Overoids drugged out of his mind, it won’t be much of a fight.

Overeem needs to come fight in the states so he would be tested for roids. I don’t want that to be an excuse for the fight result.
