Ricardo Arona: Werdum could beat Fedor Emelianenko

Pride veteran Ricardo Arona stated in his interview to Tatame.com that Fabricio Werdum could make history against the “beatable” Fedor Emelianenko:

“I believe that, to beat Fedor, you have to work the explosion, because if you stay one second on Fedor’s sight he’ll hit you and you don’t have time to get away. To avoid a movement of him you have to see where it starts so you have to be very quick. Werdum works very good with Jiu-Jitsu and he is very explosive, so I think he has a chance against Fedor.”

“The Brazilian Tiger” Arona currently recovers from injury, and is expected to make his Ultimate Fighting Championship debut sometime in the second part of this year. Arona is a decorated BJJ black belt who has 14 wins and 5 losses, fighting some of the best fighters in Pride.

Yes, he does have a chance…just like any other fighter….he will be the underdog some will secretly root for….hope he does well, otherwise we’ll get bombarded with Fedor haters saying that he’s getting matched up with non-elite fighters.

Agreed, werdum doesn’t have bjj skills like nog and his stand up isnt that good either we saw that in the dos santos fight, wedum is most likely going to get tko’d in this fight

WOW! Arona figured out how to beat Fedor and then ruined it by revealing it publicly. Now Fedor has a chance to fix his only weakness.

    :Rolls Eyes:

What a muppet to think he knows how to beat the best.

I know people are weaking you but I agree

The only fighters that pose a threat to Fedor are the ones in the UFC

How is that weak?? It’s true… where else would you find them???!!

Werdum and Fedor are both in Strikeforce for the same reason.

whenever Fedor fights the same inevitable rhetoric comes from the coaches ,trainers and opponents…..we have the formula for beating Fedor.

Just ask Big Nog how easy Fedor is to submit.

I hope Fedor and the UFC come to some agreement on a contract or co-promotion,the way other mma and boxing organizations do.
The way i see it, the UFC is ducking Fedor ,not the other way around.

I’ve been watching him for 10 years and wonded every time he fights if this will be the guy to finally beat him. I was sure Cro cop would be the one,but he made Cro cop look like a rookie. After watching 20 or so fights,I now wonder, how long will this opponent last?
Werdum will be lucky to see the second round.

He was offered a fantastic contract, he’s in Strikeforce because there’s competition there.

Because there’s NO competition there. The Fedor zombies don’t care if he never fights any significant opponent ever again though.

There isn’t much info on the details , but your right that it was a fantastic contract by UFC standards. Fighters of Fedor’s international status get a lot more in other sports….mostly through a cut of the gate and ppv. Its their name selling it, so they deserve it.
I love what Dana White has done for the sport, but he can’t expect to be able to run it like the WWE any more, where the owners make all the money.

If the UFC really wanted Fedor they would offer a one fight contract like they do in boxing.
When the UFC starts having a proper ranking system and co- promoting events then we’ll finally see the best fighting the best.
