12,698 fans watch Fedor Emelianenko's reign end

According to unofficial statistics, approximately 12,698 fans gathered at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California to witness the first (real) defeat of “The Last Emperor”, Fedor Emelianenko. Fabricio Werdum made a quick work of the legendary Champion, submitting Fedor after just one minute with a vicious triangle-armbar-choke.

The attendance netted a $1,066,739 gate receipt to Strikeforce. The significantly lower than the UFC’s Liddell vs Franklin card held at the GM Place in Vancouver, Birtish Columbia, Canada.

I really hope HBO would enter promoting MMA. They have the financial backing to compete! I don’t think there was enough funds promoting this card.

Remember that Affliction did way better than this gate when Fedor fought Arlovski! I wonder about Showtime man…

it didnt even seem like there was that many people there. I noticed the empty seats from the first minute into the event, the loudness of the crowd was weak sauce. I feel bad for Strikeforce fighters cause they could be doing so much better finacially if the seats were filled. Strikeforce airing on non pvp channels prolly didnt help much and the fighters are not exposed to the pulbic eye as much as the UFC. This is essential to keep a biz running properly. Make your fighters go out there and shake hands and kiss babies. Get the names your fighters in the media , do expo’s ect. if i wasnt a fight fan from the pride days i would asking myself who the hell is Fedor.
