World MMA Awards finalists announced; Ronda Rousey leads with four nods

The year of the “Rowdy” one continues as Strikeforce women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey has been nominated for four World MMA Awards.

Rousey leads all finalists for the 2012 World MMA Awards, run by Fighters Only magazine. Rousey was nominated for Fighter of the Year, Breakthrough Fighter of the Year, Women’s Fighter of the Year and Submission of the Year (her armbar vs. Miesha Tate). Only Frank Mir managed to secure more than one nomination as he earned nods in both the Submission of the Year (vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira) and Comeback of the Year (also vs. Nogueira).

The awards cover the period from Sept. 1, 2011, to Sept. 30, 2012. Voting ends Dec. 31. Award winners will be announced at a ceremony in Las Vegas in January, date and location TBD.

Really? Neither Edgar vs. Henderson fight makes it on here? I guess they just didn’t want Frankie possible winning the award twice. Oh well.

    My list:

    Fighter: Jon Jones… again
    FOTY: Henderson vs. Rua
    Breakthrough fighter: Mike Chandler
    Internation fighter: Martin Kampman
    Female fighter: Ronda Rousey
    KO: Barboza over Etim
    Submission: Mir over Nogueira
    Comeback: Mike Swick
    Coach: Greg Jackson… again
Gym: AKA or Jacksons (I can’t decide)
Ref: McCarthy ****ed up the least IMO
    Hot chick: Arianny… always
    Leading man: Lorenzo Fertitta
    Personality: Rutten
    Promotion: N/A
Lifestyle and technical clothing: Who cares?
    Equipment: Everlast
    Media Source: Junkie
Journalist: Should be Morgan or Fowlkes. Helwani and Bryant aren’t real journalists (they could almost be in the personality category instead). Davies wouldn’t be bad either.

Also, Edgar-Maynard two was better than a few of those fights and he hasn’t been nominated for comeback of the year for eiter of those fights. I’m thinking Edgar is getting jobbed now.

There’s some easy ones such as Jon Jones getting Fighter of the year, Shogun Hendo for the fight and Mir for Sub but there are some crazy tough ones – I made my picks and yet keep changing my mind.

Some of the hardest ones was International Fighter, Comeback and gym.

The one that took me the longest was breakthrough fighter – Weidman, Barao and Ronda all staking claims but I eventually decided that with Barao. Going from relatively unknown guy with 1 UFC fight to Interim champ in the allotted year, ends up a no brainer.

Boetsch easily for comeback. Does anyone even remember that fight? He was getting dominated! Dana and Ronda for love affair of the year.

I find it interesting the G.O.A.T is not nominated for anything, but he only defended his title once this year to be fair.
The two category’s that interest me the most are Fight of the year and comeback of the year.
Shogun v Hendo was crazy and what’s ironic is that probably would win comeback of the year if the judges scored the fight my way.
I’d go with Mir for comeback of the year, to sub Big Nog after nearly being stopped was just crazy.
