Setting the stage: Bellator 82 season 7 Welterweight tournament finals
Season 7 Welterweight Championship Tournament Finals
Lyman “The Cyborg” Good (14-2) vs Andrey “The Spartan” Koreshkov (12-0)
It has all come down to this one battle, as a former Bellator Welterweight Champion collides with an undefeated “Spartan” for a shot at Bellator’s Welterweight kingpin, “Funky” Ben Askren. Lyman Good has faced a long road to get within an arm’s reach of a championship fight, reaching the Semifinals of the Season 5 Welterweight Tournament before being defeated by Rick Hawn via split decision. Then, during Season 7, Good ran through LeVon Maynard in a qualifying fight, Jim Wallhead in the Quarterfinals, and Michail Tsarev in the Semifinals to earn this fight. Good now stands across from fellow finalist Koreshkov, who downed Marius Zaromskis via TKO to earn his trip to the finals. Koreshkov has finished all but 1 of his 12 opponents, and looks to continue his undefeated streak with the former champion. Will Good finally have his Championship rematch by defeating Koreshkov, or will Koreshkov continue his streak of fighting perfection en route to a Bellator Welterweight Title fight?
Alexander “The Tiger” Sarnavskiy (20-1) vs Tony “Lionheart” Hervey (15-12)
At 155 pounds, Alexander Sarnavskiy looks to bounce back from his first professional loss as he takes on journeyman warrior Tony Hervey. A top import from Russia, Saranavskiy was riding a whopping 20 fight win streak prior to his close loss to Rich Clementi in the Quarterfinals, and looks to return to the winners circle. Hervey, meanwhile, is on a 2 fight winning streak, and looks to show that he belongs in Bellator. Will Sarnavskiy leave his tournament loss in the past and stake his claim at another Tournament berth? Will Hervey make the most of his opportunity to compete on a national stage?
Doug “The Rhino” Marshall (14-6) vs Kala Hose (7-5)
In Middleweight action, two pugilists look to stake their claim at a spot in the next Bellator Middleweight Championship Tournament. Former WEC Light Heavyweight Champion Doug Marshall (14-6) makes his Bellator debut in non-tournament action as he takes on the returning Kala Hose. Marshall went 8-3 in the WEC, and has split his last two fights with a win and a loss each. Kala Hose is making his return to active competition following a 2 month period away from the sport of MMA, and looks to stop a 3 fight skid which includes losses to former Strikeforce fighters Jason “Mayhem” Miller and Falaniko Vitale. Will Doug Marshall start his climb back to prominence with a win in his Bellator debut? How will 2 years away from active fighting affect Kala Hose’s performance? Both men are known for having heavy hands, and own more than half of their victories via knockout or TKO, so this one could be a war.
David “The Caveman” Rickels (10-1) vs Jason “The Finisher” Fischer (4-0)
In Catchweight action at 160 lbs, David Rickels looks to bounce back from his Semifinal split decision loss to Karl Amoussou as he takes on the undefeated Jason Fischer (4-0). Rickels was riding a 10 fight winning streak prior to the close Semifinal loss to Amoussou, his first loss ever, and will certainly be looking to get back in the win column. Fischer has finished all of his opponents, and makes his Bellator main card debut against Rickels, so one can be certain that “The Finisher” will be looking to decisively defeat Rickels to keep himself on future main cards. But Rickels is no slouch in the finishing department, finishing 8 out of his 10 defeated opponents. Will Rickels return to his winning ways? Will Fischer stake his claim at a Lightweight Championship Tournament berth? With this slated to be the opening fight of the night, Bellator 82 could be opening with fireworks.
