Houston Alexander vs. James Irvin II set for Shark Fights 14

Houston Alexander has announced via Twitter that he will meet fellow UFC vet James Irvin at Shark Fights 14 in March.

The Light Heavyweight clash will be a rematch of their Fight Night 13 bout in 2008 where Alexander was knocked out by Irvin just eight seconds into the fight.

Alexander started his UFC career with impressive first round knockout victories over Keith Jardine and Alessio Sakara before dropping his next four bouts with the promotion.  Since the loss to Kimbo Slice that resulted in his release, Alexander has won two of three match-ups and is currently enjoying a two-fight win streak.  In his latest effort, at Shark Fights 13 in September, Alexander survived a first round thrashing at the hands of Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou to score a TKO victory in the second.

Irvin, meanwhile, posted a 4-6 mark with the UFC before a three fight losing streak led to his release.  Most recently, “The Sandman” faced Mike Crisman in a Gladiator Challenge match-up, which ended in a “no contest” after Irvin landed an illegal knee strike to Crisman’s head.  The  bout makes him 1-1-1 since his time with Zuffa.

Shark Fights 14 will take place March 11th from the Fair Park Coliseum in Lubbock, Texas and will be headlined by a Middleweight bout between Matt Horwich and Danillo Villefort.

Houston Alexander is a UFC vet? Didn’t he only have like 4 fights in the UFC before being released?

the definition of veteran is as follows:

a person who has had long service or experience in an occupation, office, or the like: a veteran of the police force; a veteran of many sports co

Houston didn’t a long service or a ton of experience, so don’t come at me with that ignorance crap.

would be hilarious if Irvin won in the same fashion as last time.

@stiks. i know what you are saying but when people talk about mma vets, they would even call someone a veteran if he has had 2 fights.

@bam. sandman was rubbish. he was one of the most one dimensional fighters ever in the ufc. He relied totally on trying to land a huge punch, he had nothing else, absolutely nothing else. Watch any of his fights, he tries to land a bomb, no game plan at all,you might say well he scored a flying knee of terry but generally he just walks forward eating punches just trying to land the bomb.

Good point, he’s not really a UFC “veteran”, but the UFC does tend to call anyone who fights in the UFC a veteran, to ck1′s point.

No… As the article says, he had 6 fights. Which is longer than many of the fighters who come thru the UFC.
