Leon Edwards Controls Pawel Pawlak On Way To Victory
Having won seven of his last eight bouts, Lean Edwards (10-2) looked to make it eight of nine when he faced Pawel Pawlak (11-2) at UFC Fight Night 72 in Glasgow, Scotland. “Plastinho” hoped to get back on his own winning streak.
At the end of the fight, it was “Rocky” who won his second straight bout.
Pawlek partially blocked a swift head kick from Edwards in the first round. Pawlek was trying to gauge the speed of Edwards in the early going. “Rocky” landed a straight right and clinched his opponent towards the fence. “Plastinho” landed some knees while his back was against the cage. Edwards threw a right hand on the break. Pawlek was able to get Edwards’ back to the fence briefly, but the position was reversed. Referee Leon Roberts broke the hold and they were back to the center of the Octagon before the round came to an end.
Round two began and Pawlek looked to be a bit more on his toes. They traded kicks near the cage. Edwards slapped Pawlek with a spinning kick. “Plastinho” blitzed his opponent, backing Edwards up. “Rocky” rushed in and they clinched against the fence. Pawlek was bleeding over his eye. Pawlek tried getting a takedown, but his momentum was used against him and he ended up on his back. Round two ended with Edwards in top control.
The final round began and Edwards missed a head kick. Time was called as Edwards’ kick caught Pawlek in the groin area. The action resumed and Pawlek was starched with a head kick and went down. The action went back to standing after a lack of ground work. Like the first two rounds, Edwards pushed Pawlek against the fence. “Rocky” threw an elbow on the break. Pawlek continued pushing forward, but was no match for Edwards in the clinch. The final horn sounded with Edwards in control.
All three judges had Edwards winning every round.
